Cubs Launch ‘150th Cookie Challenge’ to Find Fan with Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

I’m not sure how much of our demographic this will appeal to, but it’s worth mentioning in case you’ve got what you believe to be the best chocolate chip cookie recipe.

Batter up, bakers! The Chicago Cubs today launched the “Cubs 150th Cookie Challenge,” a search for the Cubs fan with the best chocolate chip cookie recipe. Beginning today, April 6, at 10 a.m. CT, through Thursday, April 30, at 11:59 p.m. CT, Cubs fans can submit their chocolate chip cookie recipe online at www.cubs.com/cookies for the chance to have their winning cookie served at Wrigley Field during the Cubs 150th Anniversary Celebration Saturday, August 29.

“There’s no better way to celebrate our 150th anniversary than bringing together the Cubs and chocolate chip cookies – two American classics synonymous with family and tradition,” said Cubs Executive Vice President of Marketing and Communications Jen Martindale. “We can’t wait to see the recipes Cubs fans share with us.”

The Cubs 150th Cookie Challenge is open to amateur home bakers who are proven Cubs fans. To enter, fans must submit a complete ingredient list and step-by-step baking instructions to ensure each cookie can be recreated consistently during judging. Entrants must also express their Cubs fandom by sharing a favorite Cubs memory or photograph showing their Cubs pride and describe what makes their recipe special.

Chicago-based pastry chef and restaurateur Mindy Segal, a James Beard Award winner and chocolate chip cookie lover, will headline the group of judges. In addition to great taste, submissions will be evaluated on creativity and feasibility of production at Wrigley Field. After the entries are reviewed, a group of semifinalists will be asked to submit a video demonstrating their baking process and personality.

The challenge will culminate with a live bake-off at Wrigley Field on National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, Tuesday, August 4, ahead of the Cubs-Dodgers game. The chosen finalists will have the chance to whip up their recipe for a panel of Cubs and Levy judges to taste. After sampling each cookie and getting to know the bakers, the judges will crown a winner.

Cubs fans can get a taste of the winning recipe Saturday, August 29, during the Cubs 150th Anniversary Celebration, where the chosen cookie will be served at the ballpark. The winning baker will receive an on-field recognition at Wrigley Field, Cubs 150th anniversary merchandise, a Cubs chef jacket and apron, home baking supplies and two tickets to a regular season home game.

Entries from professional chefs or bakers will not be accepted, and only one entry per person is allowed. For more information on the Cubs 150th Cookie Challenge or to submit a recipe, please visit www.cubs.com/cookies.
